Why Seismic Bracing is Important
Mason West wants to ensure that every building in an earthquake-sensitive area has proper seismic bracing for a variety of reasons. As a building owner, you know that MEPF systems are some of the largest construction investments. You also know that they are critical for the continued operation of buildings. Earthquakes in the past have continually demonstrated that MEPF systems without the proper bracing are extremely vulnerable if they are not properly designed for seismic activity. The superior seismic bracing from Mason West will protect any hospital and other essential facilities.
In California, review of the design and construction of hospitals is performed by the Office of Statewide Health, Planning and Development (OSHPD). In order to streamline the review of the seismic design of MEPF systems, OSHPD instituted a manufacturer’s pre-approval program (OPM). In December of 2013, Mason West was the first company to achieve an OSHPD OPM that completely addresses the MEPF distribution systems and continues to improve and update the approval annually. Most, if not all, design consultants, general contractors and specialty subcontractors involved with hospital projects in California use OPM approved seismic restraint systems.
