Noise Control from California's
Mason West

Mason West provides the best in noise control throughout California, Nevada, and Hawaii. With more than 45 years of experience in the areas of vibration and sound control we are happy to provide further efforts to ensure the safety and comfort of buildings with noise control. We all know that noise can be a huge factor when it comes to the comfort and livability of a building, especially when that building houses mechanical, plumbing, and electrical (MEP) equipment that can generate large amounts of noise DIRECTLY OVER OCCUPIED SPACE. That’s why Mason West has taken our expertise to the next level with products that isolate sound.

Mason West began as an expansion of Mason Industries, Inc. in 1973. Though we started in sunny Southern California as a sales office for our parent company’s products, our efforts have expanded over the years. As we’ve grown and in the areas that we serve, we have also grown to offer more than just seismic retrofitting and engineering. With options now available such as noise control and flexible connections, there’s no reason not to choose Mason West for your next project.

If you are interested in one of our innovative noise control systems or would like us to custom design something for your building, simply get in touch with the experts at Mason West today. We’re here to help.

Acoustical Noise Control in Floors, Walls and Ceilings

Acoustical Isolation: Floors, walls, and ceilings can all be designed to reduce noise and vibration from transmitting from a room into surrounding areas.  Areas such as a large mechanical room, fitness areas, or even basketball courts can also be designed to prevent airborne noise, vibration, and impact sound from transmitting into adjacent sensitive spaces like labs, sound stages, TV studios, theaters, executive conference rooms, or presidential suites.

Floating Floors: A tested and proven method for decreasing sound transmission from one floor to another is the installation of a floating floor system. The term “floating” describes the use of a flexible media to support a floor on a structural floor installed within an air gap, typically 1-2” high. There are two main methods to achieve this, the first is a Formwork System that provides bridge bearing neoprene isolators or springs spaced up to 24” on center to support a plywood frame under a wood or concrete floor. The second method is a Jack-up System. In this case, the neoprene or spring isolators are spaced up to 54” on center.  The casings surrounding the isolators are then used to support reinforcing steel, and using the accessible screw, are “jacked” up from the supporting floor creating the air gap.

Isolated Walls: Isolated walls are used in conjunction with floating floors. The wall is built and is supported by the floating floor and is laterally braced to the surrounding wall using isolation media or sway braces.

Isolated Suspended Ceilings: Isolated ceilings complete the design of an isolated room and can also work to create a sound barrier from noise transmitting to the floor above. They are typically supported with ceiling support wires from neoprene, spring, or combination spring/neoprene hangers at up to 48” centers.
